Hale Kūʻokoʻa is East Maui’s only sober living house. Located just outside of Hāna in Upper Nahiku, the property was completely renovated in 2007 with the help of community volunteers as well as generous donations from individuals, corporations, and foundation grants.
The home provides a safe and structured environment for men in recovery who are actively working to stay sober while facing the challenges of every day life. A full time house manager ensures a healthy environment conducive for sobriety and provides guidance to the residents. A strong emphasis is placed on Hawaiian cultural values and activities.
To be considered for residence at Hale Kūʻokoʻa, one must be actively seeking substance abuse treatment or have been recently discharged from a treatment program within the past twelve months. Currently, residents pay a fee of $250 per month to participate in this program.
Our professional staff understands the unique needs and challenges that one faces during early recovery. We assist individuals to develop obtainable goals and help them achieve these goals. As our clients become goal oriented, they can regain their productivity once again. We reinforce the belief that persistence is essential; there is no failure as long as one refuses to give up.
‘Ohana Makamae, Inc. is a dynamic Family Resource Center and we are always developing integrative services with other nonprofit agencies to better serve the communities of East Maui.
